Patches and Hotfix
Patches are usually minor efforts but do require installation from media or individual drop in fix, rebuilding ear files and undeploying the current application. Next steps are removing the applications from Websphere then deploying. For Content Search Services this may require index rebuilds or command line updates.

In place Upgrades
In place upgrades are similar to drop in patch fixes but typically require an installer plus hot fixes. The system is typically taken offline until the upgrade is completed and all ECM products must be supported as listed on IBM's support matrix such as IER Records, ICC, ICN and Workflow components. In place upgrades are convenient way to remain current with your software support and to obtain new features.

Upgrade to new OS or Hardware
Rollover upgrades require creating a mirror set of servers and the installation starts from scratch. This approach is used for OS upgrades, upgrading database systems, installing new versions of middleware or moving to new storage platforms. This is the highest effort type of upgrade however this has the best rollback strategy since the existing production servers remain online until the upgrade process is completed. Users can test at their leisure and application integration testing can be performed from DEV, QA and production.
Rollover upgrades start at 40 hours per FileNet instance which includes CPE, ICN and CSS. Optional products such as ICC, IER and Workflow can be included in your scope of work at additional cost.
